Traceability

Traceability: why your Mineral Resource report must withstand an audit

A Mineral Resource report must not only be correct; it must be demonstrable. What real traceability means and how to prepare for Qualified/Competent Person (QP/CP) review.

Mineralized envelope in a 3D geological model

A resource model can be technically sound and still be hard to defend. The difference lies not in the result but in the ability to reconstruct it: what data went in, which parameters were used, which criteria were applied, and in what order.

Traceability is more than archiving files

Archiving versions is not enough. Real traceability means parameters are centralized, rules are visible, and outputs can be reproduced without relying on the memory of whoever ran the process.

  • ✓Parameter traceability across the entire workflow.
  • ✓Reproducible results from the same inputs.
  • ✓Methodological standardization across projects and periods.
  • ✓Less reliance on any one person’s tacit knowledge.

What the QP/CP review gains

When the process is auditable from start to finish, the Qualified/Competent Person (QP/CP) review no longer has to be an archaeological reconstruction. Parameter changes stay under control, and comparing scenarios becomes immediate.

When people change, neither the consistency of the process nor the delivery of results should change.

Aligning the workflow with international reporting standards is not a formality: it is what allows an investment decision to be backed by evidence.
